Abstract
Detailed analysis of the presence of Quaternary dinoflagellate cysts and acritarchs in literature is given. By the use of computer storage and ready retrieval, eight cross-referenced indices have been produced. Details such as the presence of a description of taxonomic change, a photograph or drawing have been included for all publications and taxa therein. Synonyms not in current use have also been listed, in conjunction with their current names. The geographic occurrences for most of the taxa have been given in index form. The indices have been split into four major divisions; (1) marine dinoflagellate cysts, (2) calcareous dinoflagellate cysts, (3) marine acritarchs and (4) freshwater dinoflagellate cysts and acritarchs.
A systematic section contains taxonomic notes about certain taxa. A short synonymy list is given for every species mentioned. All known cyst-thecal relationships which have been proved by culturing experiments are given in tables. An extensive bibliography is presented.
